As students head back to school, we’re thrilled to celebrate our partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools through our free Learning Through the Arts program! Reaching 80,000 students each year, this initiative brings the magic of the arts into classrooms and gives students the chance to visit the Arsht Center to experience live performances firsthand. The Arsht Center announced a $2.5 million gift from the Miami-based Green Family Foundation Trust to establish and endow the Dorothea Green Chair of Education and Community Engagement. This endowed chair position, a first of its kind at a performing arts center in the U.S., provides long-term financial support for Arsht Center education and community engagement initiatives, including free shows for Miami-Dade County Public School students, pop-up neighborhood performances, programs for people with disabilities and more. The announcement took place at a ceremony in the Dorothea Green Theater of the Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House in April 2024.

We love enhancing the learning process through the power of the performing arts! At every Jazz Roots concert, the Arsht Center gives students a FREE behind-the-scenes musical experience, access to a working sound check with major artists, a lecture and jam session, and tickets to enjoy the show. The Arsht Center and Greater Miami Youth Symphony created their first family-friendly musical composition, “The Ocean Lives There,” a celebration of life in the Tropics. Entirely Florida made, the original score draws inspiration from a picture book by Miami author M.J. Fievre and is composed by Broward native Ethan Soledad for the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. The piece celebrated its world premiere in April 2023 as part of the Arsht Center’s signature free Family Fest series.

The Arsht Center’s award-winning six-week summer camp, AileyCamp Miami, came to a spectacular conclusion in late July with a final performance titled, “Rising for Tomorrow.” Family, friends and the community at large celebrated AileyCamp Miami’s 15th anniversary, along with the achievements of more than 1,400 youth whose lives have been transformed as a result of the camp. The Arsht Center celebrated its 17th Anniversary Gala: Labyrinth of Enchantment on April 1, 2023. The Center’s marquee philanthropic event united more than 250 community leaders in support of the Center’s mission-driven arts education and community engagement programs. Guests were treated to a masquerade featuring a dramatic flamenco performance by Miami local and two-time Latin Grammy® nominee Siudy Garrido. Hit play to get a glimpse of the fun!

I am Me begins as a traveling play designed to be performed at every high school in Miami-Dade County. In the mixed-media theatrical work, six young people share what it’s like for them to be teenagers in 21st century Miami. Delivering lyrical monologues against a backdrop of oceanic images and vibrant music, the characters express their fears, frustrations and triumphs as they navigate the rough terrain of adolescence in a city whose future is as uncertain as their own.

A glimpse into the Arsht Center’s Technical Theater Apprenticeship Program as told by the apprentices – hit play to watch them in action! This paid, three-year program was designed to introduce young residents of Miami-Dade County, from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented communities, to a professional career in technical theater and to promote greater diversity in the industry.
