This classical, Afropop and spoken word mashup stars 20 aspiring teen poets from Miami who were selected in competition from among 1,000 entries.
Directed by award-winning Miami writer, actor and director Teo Castellanos, Piano Slam will feature the poets performing alongside renowned piano duo Jeroen van Veen and Mike Del Ferro and DJ and synth player Anthony "Smurfio" Laurencio in a presentation by Dranoff 2 Piano Fusion and the Adrienne Arsht Center.
Just like famed televised talent competitions America’s Got Talent, The Voice and American Idol, this year’s Piano Slam will for the first time have a live judging panel led by presidential poet laureate Richard Blanco. Other panelists include Haitian poet Mecca “Grimo” Marcelin, Miami-Dade poet laureate Caridad Moro-Gronlier and Miami Book Fair executive director Lissette Mendez.
First-access passes do not guarantee entry and expire 15 minutes prior to the performance. First-access passes must be obtained for every member of your party regardless of age. There is a limit of 4 passes per household. Guests will be let in on a first-come, first-served basis as seats become available.
