Eight-time Grammy and 2018 Emmy recipient, including Latin Grammy “Producer of the Year”, Gregg Field is one of the most musically diverse and highly sought-after producers, musicians, and educators in music.
World-class musicians and singers alike, a veritable who’s who of music Including Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Placido Domingo, Pharrell Williams, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Garth Brooks, Ray Charles, Alejandro Sanz, Stevie Wonder, John Williams, Barbara Streisand, Alejandro Fernandez, Gloria Estefan, Christina Aguliera, and Quincy Jones are among his many noted musical collaborators.
Field co-produced the 2022 Grammy-nominated recording “Ledisi Sings Nina”. In 2021, Field produced the #1 iTunes charted song “Io Si (Seen)” for the British tenor Jonathan Antoine. In 2018, Field received the Emmy Award for “Outstanding Music Direction” for the PBS special, “Library of Congress -Gershwin Prize”
honoring Tony Bennett and in 2019, he produced and music-directed the “Library of Congress-Gershwin Prize” honoring Gloria and Emilio Estefan. Field also produced the Apollo Theater’s historic “Ella 100: Live at the Apollo” centennial birthday celebration of Ella Fitzgerald and the Apollo’s 2018 Nina Simone tribute, “Nina & Me” featuring Ledisi.
In 2017 Field received a Grammy for producing the “Bluegrass Album of the Year” and Billboard #1 album, “Coming Home” by the Mark O’Connor Band. He also produced the 2015 Grammy-winning recording “Life in the Bubble” for Gordon Goodwin’s “Big Phat Band” as well as 3 Grammy-recognized albums for Arturo Sandoval receiving a total of 5 Grammy wins.
Among his recent recordings are British tenor Jonathan Antoine’s “ChristmasLand-Platinum Version”, “Ella-The Lost Berlin Tapes”, Seal’s “Standards”, “Ella 100: Live at the Apollo!”, and Arturo Sandoval’s “Ultimate Duets” featuring Pharrell, Ariana Grande, Stevie Wonder and Placido Domingo among others.
In 2013 Field received five Latin Grammy nominations including nods for “Album of the Year” and “Producer of the Year” (his 2nd nomination), winning three Latin Grammys including “Best Engineered Album”. In 2010 Field was awarded the coveted “Producer of the Year” Latin Grammy.
Beginning at age 21, Field toured with Ray Charles, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. and can be heard on Sinatra’s historic, multi-platinum Duets and Duets II recordings.
Field has also performed with major symphonies worldwide including London, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and the National Symphony in Washington D.C. and has been invited by Presidents Obama and Bush to perform at the White House.
Field has been a regular music producer-director for the “In Performance at the White House” series for PBS and a regular producer for the Los Angeles Philharmonic-Hollywood Bowl summer series. Field, Norman Lear and Harold Gaba were co-owners of Concord Music Group from 1998-2013, turning the niche jazz label into the largest independent record label in the world.
Field is an author and Vanity Fair magazine contributor and in 2019 delivered the commencement address for the USC-Thornton Music School.
Currently he serves as Chairman of the Board of Councilors at the USC-Thornton School of Music as well as serving on the Library of Congress “Gershwin Prize” Advisory Board, board member of the University of Miami-Frost School of Music and recent Governor of the Recording Academy (Grammys).
The Bay Area native lives in Los Angeles and is married to singer Monica Mancini.
