VISUALMIAMI@ARSHT PROGRAM RETURNS IN 2022 WITH CONTEMPORARY ARTIST JESSY NITE
“Receptive as a Valley” is a collection of brand-new works inspired by the idea of survival in both nature and human society
Collection will be on display in the Knight Concert Hall beginning February 2022
Miami, FL – February 9, 2022 – The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is proud to announce the return of VISUALMIAMI@ARSHT, the Center’s visual arts program spotlighting Miami artists and Miami-based collections, in 2022 with a bright new collection of work by contemporary artist JESSY NITE.
“Receptive as a Valley” is a collection of brand-new works from Jessy Nite that are inspired by the idea of survival in both nature and human society. The brightly colored, intricately patterned paracord, a tactical material known for its strength and durability, is thoughtfully selected and crafted together with self-taught traditional survival knots to reveal messages in an array of Nite’s custom fonts. The texts play off of familiar phrases related to nature, climate, community, and relationships to explore survival in society and what it means to turn to the natural world as our guide forward.
The collection is on display in the Ryder System Lobby of the Center’s Knight Concert Hall through April 2022. The public will be able to view the art up close at ticketed events. For a private viewing, contact jessynite@gmail.com. A portion of sales will be donated to the Arsht Center.
JESSY NITE is a contemporary artist based in Miami, best known for her large-scale, outdoor text installations that interact with nature to tell the story of their environment. Her signature use of color and custom-made typography cross a variety of disciplines, carrying a playful but deeply rooted narrative. Nite’s public works and installations have been commissioned by multiple international cities including Vienna, Jersey City, Miami Dade and Coral Gables and brands including Nike, Facebook, Instagram and Redbull. She has exhibited across the US and internationally, most notably in NY, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Zurich, Vienna, and Bangkok.
The VISUALMIAMI@ARSHT program showcases Miami artists and Miami-based collections. The premiere collection began in February 2018 with 2017 Knight Arts Champion Sebastian Spreng’s “Tones of Miami,” which featured 15 original prints, each created with an iPad and selected from Spreng’s latest body of work. The next installment ran November 2018 - February 2019 and featured José Bedia's "Watering Past Ground," which featured two original works on paper and eight original paintings on canvas.
