Miami, FL – June 22, 2023 – The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is proud to announce the return of its award-winning AILEYCAMP MIAMI, a free, full-scholarship summer program currently celebrating its 15th anniversary of transforming the lives of more than 1,300 Miami-Dade County public middle school students since 2009. AILEYCAMP MIAMI 2023 runs from June 19-July 28, culminating with a free public performance in the Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall on Saturday, July 29 at 7 p.m.
AILEYCAMP MIAMI strives to provide a safe, creative environment for students to take West African, jazz, modern and ballet dance classes while also learning about nutrition, conflict resolution, drug prevention, critical thinking and other life skills in personal development and creative communication classes. 110 middle school students from all over Miami-Dade County will participate in the 2023 program, which is offered at no cost and includes breakfast, lunch and uniforms.
“This year’s AILEYCAMP MIAMI theme is resiliency. Throughout the past 15 years, our campers have proven that they are resilient and can overcome any obstacles that come their way,” said Jairo Ontiveros, vice president of education and community engagement at the Arsht Center. “AILEYCAMP MIAMI gives them this perspective, and shows them that no matter the challenges, as long as they put their mind to it - and not use the word can’t to define their possibilities - not only will they overcome, but they will reach their dreams.”
The 15th Anniversary season of AILEYCAMP MIAMI is supported by The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation; The Batchelor Foundation, Inc.; Himan Brown Charitable Trust; Presenting Corporate Partner, Four Seasons, including Four Seasons Hotel and Residences at The Surf Club; The Surf Club Private; Four Seasons Hotel Miami; and Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale; Albert & Jane Nahmad Family Foundation; The Kirk Foundation; Wynwood Walls Foundation, Inc.; Dosal Family Foundation; Marian and David Rocker; The Israel, Rose, Henry & Robert Wiener Charitable Foundation; The Children’s Trust; Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council; and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. AboutUs
Set in the heart of downtown Miami, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is committed to welcoming and connecting ALL people to the arts, to the Arsht Center and to each other. Our stages are alive year-round with artists from around the world, innovative programming from our resident companies and local arts partners, free community events that reflect Miami’s unique identity and arts education experiences for thousands of Miami children each year.
Since opening in 2006, the Arsht Center, a 501C3 non-profit organization, has been recognized as a catalyst for billions of dollars in new development in the downtown area, a leader in programming that mirrors South Florida’s diversity, a host venue for historic events and Miami’s hub for arts education.
Each year, we serve more than 60,000 young learners and offer more than 100 culturally diverse and inclusive education programs — many enhanced by the Arsht Center’s relationship with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, local teaching artists and Miami-based arts organizations.
The Arsht Center is also a home stage for three resident companies — Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and New World Symphony — and a launch pad for local artists to make their mark on the international stage. Our 300+ events each year include the Center’s Signature Series of classical, jazz, Broadway, local theater and much more. We present a robust series of touring Broadway musicals direct from New York, the largest jazz series in South Florida, a major annual Flamenco Festival and an award-winning Miami-based theater program. In addition, our Family Fest, Free Gospel Sundays, CommuniTEA LGBTQ+ celebration and Heritage Fest are among dozens of free events that bring together people from all corners of our community.
