In January 1995, at the suggestion of the Rev. Milton Biggham (executive producer of SAVOY Records), Pastor Marc Cooper sounded a clarion call for singers to come together to form a new choir. The following month, in the Florida Memorial College Chapel, more than 100 of South Florida’s top gospel singers and songwriters gathered to create Miami Mass Choir.
The choir’s debut album, 1997’s It’s Praying Time, reached No. 25 on Billboard's gospel albums chart and earned Miami Mass Choir the Stellar Award for Choir of the Year. Since then, the group has recorded several more albums, been nominated for a Grammy Award, performed on MTV and served as resident choir of the Arsht Center’s Free Gospel Sundays series.
Opening for Pastor Marc Cooper and Miami Mass Choir will be South Florida gospel group Second Chapter. The group currently consists of founding members William “Ponch” Orange and Laster Wilson, longtime member Jeffrey Mack, the return of original members Andre Williams and Larry Cauley Sr., newest member Javaris Cross and a core of dedicated musicians lead by longtime music director LaKeith Anderson. These powerful men of God send a whirlwind of positive waves that are sure to captivate the hearts and minds of everyone they meet.
WPLG Local 10 Anchor Calvin Hughes (@calvinwplg) returns as the host for Free Gospel Sunday performances.
For this performance, all of Miami is invited to take the GOSPEL TRAIN to the Arsht Center as part of a partnership with Miami-Dade County to make the Center’s free programming more accessible to the community.

A promo code to redeem the pass on the GO Miami-Dade Transit mobile app will be included with a FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS first-access pass. A special pop-up gospel performance will guide riders to the Metromover platform at Government Center station, where riders can take the Omni Loop to the Adrienne Arsht Center station.
