Dutiful middle-aged Haitian demolition worker Xavier is outgrowing the Little Haiti home he shares with his wife, Esperance — a seamstress and school crossing guard — and their millennial son, Junior, who keeps his standup comedy aspirations from his father.
Xavier has remained loyal, hardworking and well respected for decades. But as the demolition sites inch closer to home, the realities of gentrification come into focus, and Xavier’s loyalties are tested.
Director Monica Sorelle’s incredible feature debut tackles many of the issues Miami faces today, including gentrification and economic challenges.
The screening of Mountains will be preceded by a screening of the short film Querido Pequeño Haiti, directed by Diana Larrea. Director Monica Sorelle will be in attendance to participate in a post-screening Q&A.
