Bringing together music and performance art, Kraftwerk concerts are a true Gesamtkunstwerk—a total work of art.
Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider created the multimedia project Kraftwerk in 1970. They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums.
By the mid 1970s, Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic soundscapes and musical experimentation with robotics and other technical innovations. With their visions of the future, Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century.
Their compositions, synthetic voices and computerized rhythms have had a major international influence across an entire range of music genres, from electro to hip-hop, techno and synth-pop.
In their live performances, Kraftwerk—Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert and Falk Grieffenhagen—illustrate their belief in the respective contributions of man and machine.
Starting with the 2012 retrospective of their catalog at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Kraftwerk in recent years have returned full circle to their origins in the Düsseldorf art scene of the late 1960s.
The concert series at MoMA was followed by presentations at Tate Modern Turbine Hall in London, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, the Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, Neue National Galerie in Berlin, and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
In 2014, Hütter and Schneider were honored with the Grammy‘s Lifetime Achievement Award.
