Flamenco Festival Miami celebrates its 16th edition by paying tribute to one of the most emblematic cradles of the art form: Granada. The Nasrid city is not only distinguished by the majesty of the Alhambra and its rich cultural history, but also by its unique contribution to flamenco, as it harbors both the purest roots and the most daring avant-garde expressions of this art form. This edition of the Flamenco Festival will bring together the most celebrated stars of contemporary flamenco, as well as a new generation of artists who are redefining the art form.

“Liñán is the best thing happening to flamenco and Spanish dance today.” – El País (Spain)

In this new creation, which was named Best Performance at the 2024 Bienal de Sevilla, Manuel Liñán, 2017 winner of Spain’s prestigious Premio de la Danza, explores the deep human need for connection and the emotions that arise from physical closeness. In this East Coast premiere, Muerta de Amor takes audiences on a journey of desire, fantasy, and provocation—uncovering the intimate feelings that fuel our energy and drive our relationships. Liñán has garnered international praise for his showmanship and the sincerity with which he challenges the rules of traditional flamenco. He is one of only two Spanish dancers to be nominated for an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance, and his authentic approach to dance has created an impact in Spain and beyond. Linan brings together seven outstanding dancers for this performance, blending movement and modern copla music made famous by artists such as Rocio Jurado and Isabel Pantoja with the passion that the genre is known for.

“Mercurial flamenco that’s full of surprises.” – The Guardian

Returning to the Arsht stage for the first time since 2014, Eva Yerbabuena takes to the stage with a thrilling new show that “defies gravity” (Financial Times).  In Yerbagüena (Oscuro Brillante), the flamenco superstar reflects on her on a 20-year career as she shows off why she is considered “flamenco’s best” (The Guardian). Joining Yerbabuena is her musical director, guitarist and husband, Paco Jarana, as well as two cantaores (vocalists) and two percussionists. This performance also features a cameo by dancer Jose Manuel Ramos, El Oruco. In the piece, a US premiere, Yerbabuena skillfully integrates both traditional and modern flamenco styles through captivating dance, music and striking visuals that play with contrasts like light and darkness, stillness and movement, rigidity and fluidity.

“Flamenco has rarely felt more charged and alive as it does in this show.” – The Reviews Hub London

Alfonso Losa and Patricia Guerrero’s new work, Alter Ego, is an innovative contemporary flamenco performance that explores the duality of self. The piece, which won the Audience Award at Festival de Jérez in March 2024, delves into themes of identity, internal conflict, and the tension between opposing forces within an individual. Joined by three musicians onstage, Losa and Guerrero return to the Arsht stage in a dynamic dialogue of movement, rhythm and emotion, blending traditional flamenco with modern elements.

Losa returns to the Arsht a year after Flamenco Festival XVI, where he dazzled as a “dancer with absolute mastery of [his] expressive possibilities.” (El Nuevo Herald). Recognized as Best Dancer in the Spanish and Flamenco Dance Competition of Madrid, and winner of the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2022 Festival de Jerez, Losa is widely recognized as the most genuine current representative of the Madrid school of flamenco dance.

Guerrero received the prestigious Premio de la Danza in 2021. Recognized by El Nuevo Herald as an “innovator” in flamenco, Guerrero is known for drawing geometric shapes with her dance. She was taught by maestros such as Mario Maya and Rubén Olmo, absorbing influences from both classical Spanish and contemporary dance.
